WHAT WOMEN MUST AND MUST NOT DO IN THE CHURCH: 1 Timothy 2:11-15

OUTLINE

I. WHAT WOMEN MUST AND MUST NOT DO IN THE CHURCH

I) Women must learn (v. 11a)
II) Women must not teach men nor exercise authority over men in the church (v. 11b-12)

II. WHY WOMEN MUST AND MUST NOT DO CERTAIN THINGS IN THE CHURCH

I) God’s created order (v. 13)
II) Eve was deceived (v. 14)

III. THE CHIEF WAY CHRISTIAN WOMEN ARE SAVED FROM EVE’S SINFUL STIGMA (v. 15)

Married women: Titus 2:3-5 gives you a clear pattern to follow. Titus 2:3-5 “3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.”

Single women: take Phoebe as your example. Romans 16:1-2 “1 I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church at Cenchreae, 2 that you may welcome her in the Lord in a way worthy of the saints, and help her in whatever she may need from you, for she has been a patron of many and of myself as well.”

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEN AND WOMEN: 1 Timothy 2:8-10

1 TIMOTHY 2:8-10
I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling; likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, 10 but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.
